Geely-owned Polestar has unveiled an update for the Polestar 3, accompanied by a free hardware enhancement.

The latest over-the-air (OTA) update for the Polestar 3 introduces new features, including walk-away locking and digital key support for select devices.

Polestar’s digital key feature enables smartphone users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicle without removing their phone from their pocket.

This functionality is also cross-platform, allowing it to be shared across different devices, the company said.

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller said: “With our over-the-air updates we can continue to make our cars better over time, and with the latest updates for Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 we have done just that. Our customers asked for digital key functionality, and so we delivered, and we will continue to add value for our customers over the lifetime of their cars.”

The Geely-owned EV manufacturer added that OTA updates go beyond adding new apps, features, or improving software stability—they can also enhance driving performance and upgrade active safety systems.

For the 2026 model year, the Polestar 3 will receive an upgrade from its current NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Xavier processor to the more advanced NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor.

This hardware upgrade, which is expected to enhance computing power, will be provided as a complimentary upgrade to all existing Polestar 3 owners.

Lohscheller added: “Polestar 3, the first software-defined vehicle from Europe, gets even more brain power. The ability to upgrade the hardware of our cars when new technologies become available is the perfect demonstration of our commitment to deliver the very best ownership experience to our customers.

“With the Orin processor upgrade, the already outstanding Polestar 3 gets even better.”

The complimentary hardware upgrade will be carried out at an authorised Polestar service centre, with customers notified once the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor is ready for installation.

Last month, Polestar unveiled a revised business strategy, targeting 30-35% annual retail sales growth from 2025 to 2027.

The company also aims to achieve positive adjusted EBITDA in 2025, with further operational gains expected from 2026, including improved margins, reduced fixed costs, and better working capital management.
