Several major auto brands have reported healthy sales surges in Russia for Q1 2006, according to Prime-Tass reports.


Kia sales soared to 10,977 vehicles in January-March, from 4,391 vehicles in the same period last year.


The most popular model was the Spectra, with 3,950 cars sold.


Russian carmaker IzhAvto, which is part of SOK Group and based in Izhevsk in the constituent republic of Udmurtia, assembles the Spectra models.


The Ceratos and Rio were the most popular imported models, with 1,434 and 967 cars imported, respectively.

Peugeot sales soared 68% year on year to 2,645 cars in January-March.

Ford sales soared 85% on the year to 15,950 cars in Q1.


The best-selling models in the period were the locally assembled Focus, with 11,025 cars sold and the Fusion, with 2,099 cars sold.


Ford produces cars in Russia at a plant in the town of Vsevolzhsk in the Leningrad Region.


In 2005, its sales rose 54.3% to 60,564 autos.
