GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co (GMDAT) has named its first passenger car, known by its project name J-200, “Lacetti,” a Latin word meaning powerful, muscular and vigorous.

The 1.5 litre Lacetti sedan, to be known as the new Nubira for export, will be made at the company’s Gunsan plant and will be showcased at the 2002 Seoul Motor Show, slated to open in Seoul on 21 November.

GM Daewoo says it aims to sell over 5,000 units of the Lacetti in Korea per month to raise its share of the nation’s compact-car market to 30 percent. Shipments to Western Europe begin in 2003.

The Lacetti is priced at between 8.9 million won (about $7,300) and 12.6 million won.
