The Transport Ministry of South Korea plans to impose a fine of KRW1bn (US$982,202) on Hyundai for overstating the fuel economy of its Santa Fe SUV, reported Reuters.
The tests the ministry conducted showed the fuel economy of the car to be 8.3% lower than the figure stated by the company. The acceptable margin of error is 5%.
However, the country’s industry ministry said tests it conducted showed that the Santa Fe’s fuel economy was not overstated and was within the acceptable margin of error.
The government said use of different testing methods and standards by the ministries led to different results.
