New car sales in Spain were down 9.6% year-on-year in January at 49,671 according to car makers’ association ANFAC.
This was slightly better than December when sales fell 13.4% and ANFAC attributed the improvement to the continuing subsidy of EUR2,000 (US$2,700) per vehicle funded by Madrid and the industry.
In France, sales fell 15% to a paltry 124,952, the lowest January volume since 1997, according to industry association CCFA.
Meanwhile, in Italy, sales were down 17.58% year-on-year at 113,525. In December they fell 22.5% bringing the decline in 2012 to 19.87%.
