Saab Automobile halted production in Sweden yesterday (25 February) over problems with a supplier and customs, it has been reported.
Local radio said today that the troubled car company had been told by the Swedish customs authorities that imported parts for its assembly line would be halted because of unpaid customs duties.
The report said Saab’s flow of parts through customs would not resume until the carmaker could show it could pay the custom duties, following Saab’s filing for protection from creditors last week.
Meanwhile, other reports suggested the carmaker was also having problems with a supplier, although Reuters reported that issue had been ironed out.
Saab Automobile spokesman Eric Geers was quoted by the news agency as saying: “We had a problem with a supplier, but that has been solved now. Now only the customs remain, and we will solve that.”
It is thought that production would resume today.
