New vehicle sales in Taiwan increased by 20.1% year-on-year to 34,746 units in September, according to local industry sources.
The market remained strong throughout the year, driven by strong economic growth and low interest rates. Sales in the first nine months rose 15.1% to 313,756 units.
Toyota and Lexus distributor Hotai Motor reported a 34% rise in sales to 11,574 units to claim a third of the market, helped by new models such as the updated Yaris.
Yulon Nissan reported a 5% sales rise to 3,670 units last month, followed by China Motor with a 19.6% sales rise to 3,577 units; Ford Lio Ho 1,922 sales; Mercedes-Benz 1,784 units; and Honda 1,598 units.
