UK engine production dipped 1.1% year on year in 2015 to 2,368,477 units manufactured though overseas demand rose 2% to 1,516,883.
December production fell 4.4% to 152,212 engines.
Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: "UK engine manufacturing held reasonably steady in 2015 with output at almost 2.4mi units demonstrating the underlying strength of the sector.
"The growth of production for export we've seen throughout the year shows the importance of demand from overseas markets, with more than 1.5m engines – 64% of total volume – exported over the past 12 months."
