The new Maxima QX, Nissan’s luxury flagship saloon, goes on sale in the UK this autumn. Significantly upgraded in the areas of comfort, space, safety, performance and equipment, the new Maxima QX offers two refined V6 24-valve engines – an economical 2.0-litre or potent 200PS 3.0-litre.
“The New Nissan Maxima QX offers customers an impressive driving experience with excellent levels of luxury and refinement. It is important for Nissan to be represented in the Executive car segment and to provide our current D-segment customers with the opportunity to upgrade to a Nissan – this is particularly relevant for fleet customers,” said Neil Burrows, Director, Marketing, Nissan Motor (GB) Limited.

The new Nissan Maxima QX is larger than its predecessor, allowing more room for the driver and passengers, while commanding more road presence with its new elegant design. Featured at the front of the longer, sloping bonnet are the latest generation xenon gas discharge headlamps, with their distinctive blue light. The new front grille, with stylised “flying wing” inserts and bumper with integrated fog lamps, add to the distinctive lines of the Maxima QX.
Inside, the emphasis is on comfort, luxury and practicality. The larger exterior dimensions allow a significant increase in both front and rear legroom and headroom for the driver. Rear visibility has been improved with the addition of an automatic anti-dazzle function on the rear view mirror.
The Maxima QX line up has been extended to include a 2.0-litre manual version alongside the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre automatic models. The all-alloy VQ engine in the Maxima QX has been voted into the ’10 Best Engines’ award every year since 1994 by the independent US motoring journal Wards Auto World.
The VQ engine provides class-leading standards of refinement, response and performance. The revised 3.0-litre engine now boasts more power and torque. Refining both the air intake system and the camshafts’ operation led to a power rise from 193PS to 200PS at 6,400rpm. Torque, which is key for effortless performance, has risen from 255Nm at 4,000rpm to 271Nm at just 3,600rpm. The result is improved driveability with useful performance available at low engine speeds. Power and torque figures for the 2.0 V6 remain unchanged.
Three models are available in the new line-up – 2.0-litre SE with manual and automatic transmissions, 2.0-litre SE+ and 3.0-litre SE+, both with automatic transmission. All models have generous levels of standard safety and comfort features including driver, passenger and side airbags, 3-point seatbelts all round, ABS with EBD and Nissan Brake Assist, front active head restraints, electric windows and mirrors, climate control, CD autochanger and alloy wheels. The SE+ models also feature leather upholstery, heated front seats and electric seat adjustment. Nissan’s unique Birdview™ Satellite navigation system is available as an option on the 3.0-litre SE+.
Prices for the new Nissan Maxima QX range will be announced in September 2000.
Like all Nissans, the new Maxima QX is covered by Nissan’s comprehensive three-year or 60,000 mile mechanical warranty, three-year paint warranty and six-year perforation corrosion protection. Twelve months roadside assistance operated in conjunction with the RAC is also included.
