General Motors has made a number of changes to key manufacturing personnel which take effect on January 1, 2003.

Larry Zahner, GM’s Asia Pacific (GMAP) vice president of manufacturing, Daewoo Motor Company in Seoul, Korea, is returning to the US as manufacturing manager with GM’s vehicle manufacturing organisation. Zahner is replacing John Buttermore, who was recently appointed GM vice president of labour relations. Zahner will report to Guy Briggs, GM vice president and general manager of vehicle manufacturing.

Robert Moran, currently manufacturing manager – engines at GM Powertrain (GMPT) is named vice president of manufacturing operations for GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Company (GM Daewoo)/vice president of GMAP manufacturing. In his GM Daewoo role, he will report to vice president and CEO Nick Reilly and be responsibile for GMAP manufacturing and a member of GM’s Asia Pacific strategy board, reporting to Fritz Henderson, group vice president and president of GMAP.

Joe Ponce, manager of the Detroit/Hamtramck plant, will replace Moran as manufacturing manager – engines, reporting to Homi Patel, GMPT vice president and general manager of manufacturing operations.
Mary Barra, executive director of GM vehicle operations competitive operations engineering, is replacing Ponce as plant manager of Detroit/Hamtramck. She will report to Zahner. Barra’s replacement will be named later.

Joseph Choate is named plant manager of the Warren, Michigan, transmission plant, replacing Kenneth Dosenbach who recently became manufacturing manager – transmissions. Choate is currently plant manager at GMPT Flint North and will report to Dosenbach.

Mike Arcamone is named plant manager of GMPT Flint North, reporting to Ponce. Arcamone is currently plant manager at the GMPT Livonia, Michigan, engine plant.

Lawrence Psaris will become plant manager of Livonia Engine, effective Jan. 1, 2003, also reporting to Ponce. Psaris is currently production manager at the GMPT Tonawanda, New York, engine plant.
