Mercedes-Benz’s expansion of its Alabama plant will double its current workforce, creating 2,000 more jobs between 2004 and 2005, reported Associated Press.
AP said that the plant’s expansion from its current 1,942 to 4,000 workers will again use the Alabama Industrial Development and Training authority to pick and train those chosen to work at the site.

At a meeting with local officials on Saturday, AP reported, Emmett Meyer, Mercedes personnel director, noted that the auto maker received nearly 65,000 applications after it began a recruitment drive for the Vance plant in 1993. Meyer said that Mercedes will use the same selection process for this current wave of recruitment.
“We’re going to essentially follow the same plan,” he said. “We’ve been more than pleased with the quality of people. They’ve been the cause and reason for our success.”
