Auto parts maker Vimercati would invest US$200m to open a factory in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, Reuters reported.

State governor Samuel Garcia announced the plans on social media.

The company, owned by India’s Viney Corporation, was yet to comment.

According to Reuters, Garcia tipped Nuevo Leon to become a global hub for EV manufacturing.

Tesla announced a $5bn factory in state capital Monterrey earlier this year and, in May, Garcia said Kia would begin production of new EV models at its plant in the state.
