
Volkswagen has named Matthias Rabe, currently the passenger cars brand head of technical development operations, chief technology officer (CTO).
The appointment takes effect 1 February when Rabe also takes on additional tech development responsibilities, VW said in a statement.
Reporting to Frank Welsch, the VW board member for technical development, Rabe, VW said, “will be responsible for steering the technical development departments and for the transformation of technical development in his new CTO role.
Welsch, who heads both passenger cars technical development and group R&D as group CTO, Welsch will concentrate on design, concepts and strategy.
Rabe was previously head of chassis and electrical development in Shanghai before leading research at Volkswagen AG and then passenger cars body development.
He next ran Seat R&D in Spain before returning to Wolfsburg last March.
