Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD has launched an advanced autonomous driving system, called God’s Eye, which it says will be fitted on all its car models.
The initiative was unveiled at the company’s latest intelligent strategy event.
BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu said that the God’s Eye driver-assistance system is planned to be first installed on a batch of 21 NEV models, including affordable options such as the CNY69,800 ($9,555) Seagull.
Chuanfu highlighted that autonomous driving systems are typically found in vehicles priced above CNY200,000, making them inaccessible to the majority of consumers. However, with God’s Eye, more customers will be able to enjoy this feature, the company maintains.
Chuanfu anticipates that advanced self-driving capabilities will become a standard vehicle feature within the next two to three years.
Chuanfu was quoted by The Straits Times as saying that this year “will be the first of intelligent driving for everybody”.
“It will become a must-have in the next two to three years, just as a seat belt or airbag.”
God’s Eye is planned to be made available in three versions. The high-end triple LiDAR version, God’s Eye A (DiPilot 600), will be featured in luxury brand Yangwang models, reported Yicai Global.
The single LiDAR version, God’s Eye B (DiPilot 300), will be integrated into premium brands such as Denza, Dynasty, and Ocean.
The more economical triple-camera vision solution, God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100), is set for more affordable models.
BYD senior vice-president and head of the automotive new technology research institute, Yang Dongsheng said that God’s Eye utilises BYD’s self-developed intelligent driving chips and algorithmic architecture. It also incorporates computer platforms from third-party suppliers, including Nvidia and Horizon Robotics.
Furthermore, the company revealed the upgrade of its hybrid and pure electric vehicle platforms to the Xuanji Architecture.
This intelligent vehicular architecture acts as both the brain and neural network of the vehicle, providing a seamless integration of electrification and intelligence to support the God’s Eye system.
Xuanji Architecture incorporates the large language model from Chinese AI startup DeepSeek, further enhancing the system’s capabilities.
Last month, it was reported that BYD was planning to launch its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in Japan within the year.
