The module has five lidar sensors, positioned at the centre and corners of the vehicle which create a 3D point cloud of the vehicle’s surroundings.
10 cameras recognise colours and objects which enables the module to interpret traffic lights, traffic signs, and lane markings. Use of stereo cameras also determines distances accurately.
Webasto has concealed the sensor set, including antennas, beneath a full surface polycarbonate cover. A thermal management system ensures the sensors function optimally within their ideal temperature range.
The module includes a cleaning system that uses the vehicle’s washer fluid and air jets to tackle dust, mud, snow, or insects, de-icing and de-fogging functions and multiple automated driving system lights (ADS) to inform other road users when the vehicle is operating autonomously.
